Melted Art

So… I bought this can of plastic alphabet soup some months ago, confident I would get inspired to do something with them eventually. The letters themselves are meant for scrapbooking, but I had a bigger purpose in mind.

A year or so ago, I made a bowl from melted beads, inspired by instructions posted on Craftster. I have seen some others make bowls out of plastic dinos and army men. Natural progression would be melted letters and numbers, right? At least that’s how it worked in my mind.

Here’s what the letters looked like pre-melting:

I lined a glass bowl with foil, set the oven to 400 degrees, and arranged the plastic beauties inside the bowl. After the bowl was melted, I stuck it in the freezer to cool. About 10 minutes later, I pulled it out, peeled the foil off, and the bowl was finished.

Bowls are cool and all, but how can you show one off to your friends? Thus, the “melted art” pendant came into being. I had some letters left over from the bowl that I hadn’t used, so I lined a small bread pan with foil and set the letters flat so they would fuse together. I was pleased with the result.

I’m hoping to try and find more colors to make more necklaces with!

Happy Easter

Yes, even though I’m 24, its still a tradition to color eggs on Easter…its an excuse to get messy!

For the past 5 years, it has been a tradition with my fiance’s family to dye eggs and then draw on them with Sharpies. This was my “mod egg”. I left my egg in pink dye for 10 minutes and 5 minutes in purple. I love the result.

The past two years we have blown out some of the eggs so they keep and we can turn them into everyday ornaments with a little wire and ribbon. These are the three I made this year. The blue bird one will go in my kitchen and the other two I plan on giving away as gifts.

blownHope you all have a blessed Easter!
