The Wedding Biz

Hello all! Its been quite some time since I last made an entry, probably because I have been soooo busy with my new wedding line!

I opened enamor weddings back in February, and I haven’t looked back since then!

It has been refreshing to my creativity doing something different. Not to mention, its awesome getting to see the use of my finished products on one of the most important days in people’s lives.

Nora and Ryan 2

The Cake Cuties custom toppers have been the most fun to make. I get pictures of the couple, a link to a dress, a photo of a fuzzy friend, and colors to work with. Each couple is so unique!

French Couple

The most fun I have had was with a couple who wanted something non-traditional for their topper, because their cake would be covered in sunflowers, with matching teal and yellow cupcakes. They wanted the toppers to look like their engagement photo instead of wedding attire. The picture Ritasha sent me was a playful photo of her riding a bike in a colorful flower print dress and her fiance in an orange polo with tan shorts. Her dress was so fun to paint! I loved the fact that it was so colorful. They had a beautiful Indian ceremony, that I’m glad I got to be a part of (in a way!).

Besides the painting process, my favorite part is seeing the toppers in action and hearing all the wonderful comments from the couple and people who attended the wedding. Puts a big smile on my face!

Blue House Ann Arbor

Hello! Today I will be taking you on a little virtual tour of Blue House in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Blue House is a handmade consignment studio and workshop that opened in March 2010 that is located just down the street from my favorite landmark in Ann Arbor, The Big House (Michigan Stadium).

Sitting area

Once you step inside this two story house, you will find yourself surrounded by a creative atmosphere. Each nook and cranny is meant to inspire, even the ceiling!

Blue House not only is a unique place to do holiday shopping, you can also try your hand at sewing, knitting, photography and painting in workshops led by local artists. Siobhan Lyle, the creator of Blue House, wanted to bring the indie-craft movement to a more localized setting and provide opportunities for everyone to learn a new skill.

I am proud to have some items at Blue House and be part of the awesome showcase of local talent in the consignment shop. Right now artists are bringing in new wares just for the holiday shopping season. I would highly recommend skipping the over-produced and busy shopping mall and big-box stores on Black Friday and stopping here instead! In fact, you can find unique items from 24 Michigan indie artists. Every Wednesday from 6:30-8:30pm at MakersMeet, artists come together to work on projects, socialize and share a tasty treat or two.

Tiny Turtle Paper Toy and contest

Just in time for Valentines Day, I created a new paper toy you can print, assemble, and give to your friends! His name’s Tiny, and he’s a very loving turtle.

You can download the printable pattern here. You can print him any size you want with your printer’s program, but he will print on a standard piece of paper or cardstock.

Tiny is very easy to make. All you need is a printer, scissors, craft knife, and a glue stick. Cut around on the solid lines. Fold along the dotted lines. He forms into a simple box shape. There are tabs on each side which fold in and glue to the front of the body and side of the head. His legs will stick out away from the body and require the use of a craft knife to cut them. The bottom will be light green.

I’m holding a special contest for you! Print Tiny, fold him up, and take a creative photo of him and email it to me at The top three photos will win these prizes:

1st place: A limited edition print of my Love Tree artwork and a 15% off coupon to use in my Etsy shop

2nd place: A Hankie Lady greeting card and a 10% off coupon

3rd place: A set of Norm the Gnome gift tags

Deadline to email me photos is March 5th. Good luck!

New Projects and More Hoots!

Hello everyone!

I have been working on many different promos for the June/July issue of The Sampler. Giant Ant pins for your picnic lunch, nature inspired trinket boxes, pink apple pendants ripe for summer, a cherry blossom bracelet, and some make your own Hoots kits.

I also just recently finished a new Modern Geisha painting. This time it is 8X8 and the sides are accented with black and white polkadot ribbon to match her kimono.

I am happy to announce that one of my photos was selected to be featured on a flyer !Handmade Detroit featured a contest in which you had to snap a creative photo with their famous “Mitten Pin” in it. I’m not sure which photo they picked (I submitted four), but Stephanie of Handmade Detroit wrote, “Your
entry was inspired and wonderful”. This one was my personal favorite:
For winning, besides having my photo plastered all over Detroit for the craft fair, I also will get a tee shirt and a box of other crafty goodies! Yay! I have applied for the Detroit Urban Craft Fair this year, which is held at the Majestic Theater in D-Town. I’m anxiously waiting a few more weeks to find out if I was accepted.

Lastly, I want to thank those of you who emailed me pictures of the Hoots that you made!
This is from Kris (rakka_deer)
From Li Li in Singapore
From Elise Mabel, Hoots and Kiedis the cat!
Each one of you will be getting something special from me in the mail as a special thanks for sending me your cute photos 🙂

Everyone keep sending me your Hoots photos! You can email them to
