I am sooooo ready for the snow to melt and 50 degree weather. I listed a couple new handbags in my Etsy shop that remind me of spring and not shivering cold! I’m working on some new artwork as well in bright cheerful colors, so look for that soon!
Baleen is one of my favorite things to paint, I think because she is so happy. Here she is on a black handbag.
My On a Limbseries started out as mini lamps, but now I’m starting to paint my little birdie on textiles and in other colors. Here is a perfect handbag to brighten your day and put you in a spring-y mood!

Friday night was the grand opening gala at the Armory Arts, where I currently live and do crafty things. All of the tenants are artists, which is cool because it’s inspiring being surrounded by creative people. The armory itself is the old Jackson prison, which was newly renovated and updated into brand new modern apartments and galleries. About 500 people came to the gala. We had a couple politicians come and speak, along with the Detroit Pistons drum-line, and a cool tap group from Detroit perform throughout the evening.
I had the privilege of helping the armory’s curator, Jane, hang most of the pieces in the main gallery on Tuesday. I have always sort of wanted to work in an art museum (not full time though!), so its cool to have one downstairs from my apartment. I had 4 paintings hanging in the gallery, along with a few of my photographs.
Art Van also brought in some furniture to set up a VIP Lounge area in the main gallery. I had to try the sofas out the day before the gala…they were so comfy!
Fellow Etsy-an, Clairigami, also lives at the Armory, and had a very cool display room of her 3-D paper sculptures. Some of the artists opened up their apartments so people could tour through them. I went and visited 8 open apartments, and each one was so uniquely decorated. Some people had their studios open so you could see work in progress.
I had made a new bird painting specially for the gala, and I was excited I would get to put it on Etsy afterward… about halfway through the evening, I found out a couple wanted to buy my firebird painting! I met and chatted with the couple in the gallery and sold it on the spot. I plan on doing some more like it soon!
I’m hoping to try and use the gallery space in the future to house an indie craft show. For more information on the Armory Arts, please see theirwebsite

Valentines Day is only a few days away…do you have a special treat for your sweetie yet? Here is an easy treat anyone will love to make or receive!
Here’s what you will need:
-Oven (200 degrees)
-Hershey’s Kisses (any flavor)
-M & M’s
Step 1: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Line up the round pretzels in rows on the cookie sheet, try and fit as many as you can, but make sure the pretzels are all on the parchment and no pan is “peeking through”.
Step 2: Unwrap the kisses. I used regular milk chocolate, hugs, and dark chocolate raspberry for mine. Place a kiss on top of each pretzel.
Step 3: Place the cookie sheet in a 200 degree oven for about 5 to 10 minutes. Once the chocolate has melted, you can take them out.
Step 4: Take an M&M and press lightly in the center of the kiss on each pretzel. This allows the chocolate to completely fill out the pretzel. The M&M’s purpose is to ensure the chocolate stays attached to the pretzel once they have cooled.
Step 5: Let cool completely before removing from the parchment. Enjoy!
Happy Valentines Day everyone!
